What Type of salmon should I buy?

pink_salmon.jpgWhen I'm standing in line at the seafood Department of the supermarket, I get so confused about what type of salmon to buy. I know I need to wild Alaska salmon, but apart from that I am lost.

Salmon is such a great omega-3 fatty acids of source and we want to eat often, but we must also sustainable fishwe choose a.

Imports of farmed Atlantic salmon: Most all salmon found in the Atlantic, farmed, and the wild population has been overfished. Although the farms remain in-demand, the total population of the Atlantic salmon is dwindling. Additionally, when this farmed salmon escape their confinement, they disturb the habitat of the endangered wild salmon.

The scary part is that these farmed salmon contain more toxic chemicals and pesticides than wild salmon. However, many experts agree that these risks may be seen in the context of the high amount of omega-3 's that you will be taking.

Wild Atlantic salmon: Never buy this type of salmon, since there is now an endangered species!
Organic salmon: Pay no attention to this. Organic doesn't always mean that "the best". Just check to see if the free or farmed game.
Alaska salmon: This is often the best choice if wild Alaska salmon fishing techniques are environmentally friendly and the population is said to grow. Search wild Alaska Sockeye, Coho, Chum, King, pink, red, silver, or Sake salmon breeds.
Pacific salmon: This is probably the next best choice if you can't get Alaskan.

I would not recommend buying an Atlantic salmon, especially since the General Atlantic farmed salmon the wild population in great danger. The best case would be for all of the fisheries to changing their practices. Some countries are already working on this, so we'll see what happens. But for now I'm eating steelhead salmon which, like in taste and nutrition, but a much more sustainable choice.
